Newscast (Producer: Lissa Jules)

I had a great experience producing this newscast for News 20 at Five. For some time I have been juggling on whether I wanted to pursuit a career route as a multi-media reporter or a multi-media producer. But I am glad to say that I have finally found my niche in this vast world we call journalism. Producing is definitely not an easy task in the journalism field. It requires a great deal of leadership, determination, good judgement, and most importantly patience. The producer is seen as the creative force in the newsroom because they are responsible for the content that is airing on television. Despite the fact that the producer may not be the one on camera or going out to the field to put together the packages, it still falls on the producer if the newscast goes wrong.

Producing this newscast was a great practice for me when it came to producing a stranded commercial news show. Although this has not been my first time producing content, this was my first time producing news content. I have experience doing some freelance producing with the student-run entertainment show, The BEETtv (TheBEETtv.com), so I have gained an idea of the many hats a producer has to wear and most importantly the power of communication and the importance of deadlines. With this 15 minute newscast alone, it is safe to say that I have grown as a student producer and I look forward to my journey of expanding and growing as an aspiring professional producer.
